Vol. 518 No. 3

Written Answers. - Information Technology Systems.

John McGuinness

Ceist:

148 Mr. McGuinness asked the Minister for Finance if a qualified person is employed in the Department to develop information communication technology systems for use in the Department, on an inter-Department basis and outwards to conduct business with the general public and public representatives. [11655/00]

The Department of Finance is playing a lead role in developing the framework within which electronic services will be provided. This includes responsibility for the technical infrastructure that will be required to support the electronic delivery of public services.

Over the past 12 months, the development and technical staff in my Department have been developing the skills required for the new environment. A number of web enabled applications for internal use have been developed. In summary, the IT development programme in my Department will be increasingly focused on ICT solutions for internal and external use.
