Vol. 518 No. 3

Written Answers. - Cancer Treatment Services.

Deirdre Clune

Ceist:

190 Ms Clune asked the Minister for Health and Children if his attention has been drawn to the existence of a cancer support group (details supplied) in County Cork; the financial support, if any, he will to give this group; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [11701/00]

The provision of cancer treatment and services to eligible persons in County Cork is a matter for the Southern Health Board in the first instance.

I understand that the National Cancer Forum has recently considered a report on counselling and support services for cancer patients. This report, "Cancer Support Services in Ireland, Priorities for Action", is due to be submitted to me shortly. I consider the provision of support services for cancer patients an integral and important part of cancer services and I will consider the recommendations of this report in the context of the further development of oncology services in line with the principles outlined in the national cancer strategy.
