Vol. 518 No. 3

Written Answers. - Social Welfare Payments.

Michael Ring

Ceist:

224 Mr. Ring asked the Minister for Social, Community and Family Affairs the reason a person (details supplied) in County Dublin has not been approved and paid one parent family allowance; and the way in which this woman with three dependent children is expected to survive with no income in view of the fact she has been refused supplementary welfare allowance. [11614/00]

The person concerned was in receipt of one-parent family payment until August 1999. Her claim was terminated when she failed to supply a statement of her earnings for the purpose of receiving her entitlement. She qualified for disability benefit with effect from 3 September 1999.

She re-applied for a one-parent family payment on 13 September 1999. The Department requested her on a number of occasions to for ward a statement from her employer confirming her earnings and also to supply evidence of her efforts to obtain maintenance from her spouse. As she failed to forward the necessary documentation, her application was refused. A maintenance hearing on the case is due to be held this week.
The person concerned has been requested again by the Department to supply a statement from her employer confirming her gross weekly earnings and a copy of the court order in relation to maintenance. As soon as she supplies this information her entitlement to one-parent family payment will be reviewed and she will be notified of the outcome.
