Vol. 518 No. 3

Written Answers. - Legal Aid Service.

John McGuinness

Ceist:

243 Mr. McGuinness asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform if his Department will establish a free legal aid law centre in Carlow; and if he will make a statement on the request for such a centre by the Carlow local network against violence group, St. Catherine's Community Centre, Carlow. [11585/00]

I have been informed by the Legal Aid Board that it currently operates a full-time law centre in Kilkenny and a part-time law centre in Carlow. I understand that the part-time law centre operates on the first and third Friday of every month from St. Catherine's Social Services Centre and is staffed from the Kilkenny Law Centre.

I have been informed by the Legal Aid Board that there are no plans at present to open a full-time law centre in Carlow but the matter will be kept under consideration.
