Vol. 518 No. 3

Written Answers. - Company Takeovers.

Michael Bell

Ceist:

80 Mr. Bell asked the Tánaiste and Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment the discussions, if any, which have taken place between her Department and a company (details supplied) in County Louth; the plans, if any, for the future of the company in relation to a possible takeover or a programme of redundancy; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [11363/00]

No discussions have taken place between my Department and the company in question on the issue raised. However, I am informed by IDA Ireland that discussions are taking place between this company and a UK company on joint co-operation in the production and supply of domestic appliances for the European market. It has already been agreed that the Irish company will manufacture products for the UK company. I am also informed that negotiations are taking place between company management and the workforce about a redundancy package for a small number of workers at the County Louth plant.
