Vol. 518 No. 6

Written Answers. - Visa Applications.

Bernard Allen

Ceist:

160 Mr. Allen asked the Minister for Foreign Affairs the reason for the long delay in making a decision on a visa application made by a person (details supplied) who submitted all the necessary documents to the Irish Embassy in Beijing in September 1999 and has not received an acknowledgement from the embassy to date; and if he will take into consideration the fact that her husband is an Irish citizen living in Cork who wishes to have his wife visit him. [12510/00]

This application was received in the embassy on 27 September 1999 but it was misplaced on receipt and was not registered, as visa applications normally are. The application was located following a search this week. I am sorry for this administrative error and for the inconvenience caused to this lady and her husband.

The embassy issued a visa and sent her passport back to the applicant yesterday.
