Vol. 518 No. 6

Written Answers. - Tax Rebates.

John McGuinness

Ceist:

247 Mr. McGuinness asked the Minister for Finance if he will examine the case of a person (details supplied) in County Carlow to determine if he is due a tax rebate relative to his pension claim. [12548/00]

I am informed by the Revenue Commissioners that the taxpayer is due a refund of £753.98 income tax which he paid in the 1999-2000 tax year, i.e. the year ended 5 April 2000. Arrangements are being made to issue a balancing statement, and a cheque for the amount overpaid, to the taxpayer.

As the taxpayer's estimated income for the current year is lower than the income tax exemption limit of £15,000 which applies to married couples aged 65 years or more, he is not liable to pay income tax.
