Vol. 518 No. 6

Written Answers. - Vaccination Programme.

Bernard Allen

Ceist:

282 Mr. Allen asked the Minister for Health and Children if he has had direct discussions with the Irish Medical Organisation with regard to his planned new vaccination and screening schemes in view of the fact that talks between the Irish Medical Organisation and the Health Service Employers' Agency are not progressing. [12351/00]

Ceist:

352 Mr. Allen asked the Minister for Health and Children if he has received a proposal from the Irish Medical Organisation in relation to a vaccination programme; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [13048/00]

I propose to take Questions Nos. 282 and 352 together.

I have not received a proposal from the Irish Medical Organisation regarding a vaccination programme.

Discussions are under way at the Health Service Employers' Agency in relation to the fees which should be payable to general practitioners for the provision of certain immunisations and for their participation in phase 1 of the cervical screening programme. I am hopeful that agreement will soon be reached on the issues concerned. In the circumstances it would not be appropriate for me to become directly involved in the matter.
