348 Mr. Allen asked the Minister for Health and Children the plans he has to introduce a national screening programme for cystic fibrosis in view of the recommendations received by him from the National Centre for Medical Genetics that such a programme is warranted. [13044/00]
The chief medical officer in my Department convened a working group in March 1999 to examine neonatal screening for cystic fibrosis. This working group comprises medical professionals from paediatrics, public health medicine and pathology and includes a representative from the National Centre for Medical Genetics.
The group is due to submit its report to the chief medical officer in the near future.
