Ceist:

367 Ms Clune asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government the powers the proposed community wardens will have in relation to traffic and litter management; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [12514/00]

I propose to take Questions Nos. 366 and 367 together.

My Department is finalising discussion with Galway Corporation, Galway, Leitrim and Wexford County Councils and Naas UDC about the nature and extent of the warden service they might agree to provide on a pilot basis.

The exact duties to be carried out in the course of the pilots will be identified by the local task forces. However, I fully expect that duties in relation to traffic and litter management will form part of the community warden's brief.
