Vol. 518 No. 6

Written Answers. - Integrated Development Plan.

John Bruton

Ceist:

382 Mr. J. Bruton asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government if he will provide a detailed report regarding his Department's involvement in the integrated development plan for the Boyne Valley; the funds allocated by him to elements of the plan in each of the years 1997 to 2000; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [12669/00]

The Boyne Valley Integrated Development Plan, 1996 was prepared by consultants under the guidance of a steering group, under the aegis of the Department of the Taoiseach, which was chaired by the Meath county manager and on which my Department was represented. Louth County Council was also represented. My Department is not directly involved in the provision or operation of measures proposed in the plan. It is primarily a matter for Meath County Council, in whose functional area most of the Boyne Valley lies, and the other local authorities involved. However, projects funded by my Department under the urban and village renewal programme, 1994-99 and the special programme for peace, 1995-99 include proposals which were set out in the plan. Under these programmes grants of £1.112 million and £3.091 million have been provided for Meath and Louth County Councils respectively.

Further funding is being made available under the National Development Plan, 2000-06 to continue investment in the renewal and regeneration of these areas.
