Vol. 518 No. 6

Written Answers. - Grant Aid.

Beverley Flynn

Ceist:

426 Ms Cooper-Flynn asked the Minister for Social, Community and Family Affairs if grant assistance will be made to a social services centre in County Mayo (details supplied). [12721/00]

The Department's grant schemes provide for community and personal development work undertaken by a wide range of local self-help groups and linked to form an overall framework of support and progression for community and family groups at different stages of development.

I am aware the centre concerned applied for a grant of £9,000 under my Department's 1999 scheme of grants to voluntary organisations towards the cost of evaluating services and to help put in place a management structure to improve current services. Upon examination it was decided that this application did not come within the remit of my Department's scheme of grants but was proper to the Western Health Board. Consequently, on 7 May 1999 the application was handed over to the community care area of the Western Health Board in Castlebar. A letter explaining the position issued to the group on 12 May 1999. I understand that a grant of £8,000 issued from the Western Health Board in 1999.

No application has been received by this Department from the group under this year's scheme of grants to voluntary organisations.
