Vol. 518 No. 6

Written Answers. - Special Areas of Conservation.

Trevor Sargent

Ceist:

444 Mr. Sargent asked the Minister for Arts, Heritage Gaeltacht and the Islands if her attention has been drawn to the large-scale, destructive coastal transformations now taking place in Mullaghmore, County Sligo; and if she will act to prevent this damage to the sand dunes, since Sligo County Council has up to now failed to protect the area. [12389/00]

I presume the Deputy is referring to the recent incident whereby Dúchas, the heritage service of my Department, had to intervene to stop works which are damaging the Bunduff Lough and Machair-Trawalua-Mullaghmore candidate special area of conservation, c.SAC. I am now considering whether further action, including restoration of the site and-or prosecution, is appropriate.
