Vol. 518 No. 6

Written Answers. - Garda Deployment.

Ceist:

480 Dr. Upton asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform if his attention has been drawn to the particular difficulties in an area (details supplied) in Dublin 12; if he will increase the number of gardaí accordingly; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [12615/00]

The detailed allocation of Garda personnel to an individual area is a matter for the Garda authorities who have informed me that the personnel strength of the station that polices the area referred to in the question, as of the end of March for the past three years, is as follows:

Year

Personnel Strength

1998

77

1999

84

2000

96

These resources are also complemented by mobile patrols from divisional and district based units as the need arises. A full-time community garda is also assigned to the area in question.
The Garda authorities have also informed me that local management is satisfied that the best possible Garda service is being provided to the area referred to with the current deployment of resources. The situation will, however, be kept under review and when additional personnel next become available, the needs of the sub-district where the area is located will be fully considered in the overall context of the needs of other sub-districts throughout the country.
