498 Ms Shortall asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform the numbers of non-nationals convicted of crimes in each of the past three years; the numbers of these, if any, who were persons seeking asylum; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [12968/00]
I am informed by the Garda authorities that the information requested is not readily available as the nationality and asylum-refugee status of an offender is not recorded. The information could only be collated by making an inquiry in respect of each individual offender throughout the State, which would, as the Deputy will appreciate, involve a disproportionate expenditure of staff time and resources.
