561 Mr. Lawlor asked the Minister for Education and Science if, further to parliamentary Question No. 303 of 7 March 2000, the promised additional staff at the planning and building unit have been deployed; the number of additional staff involved; and the functions they will carry out. [12562/00]
It is proposed to deploy 27 additional staff in the planning and building unit of my Department in the near future as part of an overall planned increase in the staffing of my Department. My Department is proceeding with arrangements to fill the additional posts as quickly as possible.
The duties of the new staff in the planning and building unit will include assessing the accommodation requirements of schools and dealing with the greatly increased number of building projects in the primary, post-primary and third level sectors.
