Vol. 518 No. 6

Written Answers. - Schools Refurbishment.

Jim O'Keeffe

Ceist:

566 Mr. J. O'Keeffe asked the Minister for Education and Science if his attention has been drawn to the lack of facilities in the special class for children with severe and profound learning disabilities at St. Joseph's girls national school, Skibbereen, County Cork; if he will take immediate steps to ensure that priority is given to adapting the classroom to make it suitable for the needs of those children, all of whom are wheelchair-bound with associated severe medical conditions; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [12638/00]

I can confirm that my Department has received an application from the management authorities of St. Joseph's girls' national school, Skibbereen, County Cork, for grant assistance towards improvement works at the school. The Deputy will appreciate, however, that my Department has a large number of school building projects on hand at present. Within this constraint, I assure the Deputy that the application from St. Joseph's girls national school is being dealt with as quickly as possible.
