93 Mr. Deasy asked the Minister for the Marine and Natural Resources the moneys being provided in 2000 for dredging and the enlargement of Helvick Harbour, Helvick, County Waterford; and the plans, if any, for subsequent years. [12954/00]
The harbour at Helvick is owned by Waterford County Council and development or maintenance of the facilities there is, therefore, the responsibility of the local authority in the first instance.
Waterford County Council has made proposals to my Department and the Department of Arts, Heritage, Gaeltacht and the Islands in relation to development works at Helvick. These proposals will be assessed in the context of the overall development needs of harbours generally, the relative priority of those requirements and the funding available for such works. Discussions by the two Departments on the matter with the local authority are ongoing.
