Vol. 519 No. 5

Written Answers. - Child Care Assistants.

Pat Carey

Ceist:

310 Mr. P. Carey asked the Minister for Education and Science if his attention has been drawn to the need for additional child-care assistants at St. Michael's House, Glasnevin, to meet the growing demand in the school; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [14103/00]

I am aware of the case made by the school in question for additional child care support. My Department is currently reviewing the level of child care support available to all schools catering for special needs children, including the school to which the Deputy refers. The objective is to ensure that all such schools, including the school in question, receive a level of child care support which is in line with that recommended by the special education review committee. My Department will be in contact with the school authorities in relation to this matter in the near future.
