Vol. 520 No. 1

Written Answers. - Disabled Drivers' Scheme.

Brendan Howlin

Ceist:

166 Mr. Howlin asked the Minister for Finance the plans, if any, he has to amend the disabled drivers and disabled passengers (tax concessions) regulations to include in the benefits of this scheme parents who must have vehicles to transport their mentally handicapped children; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [14977/00]

As I have informed the House on a number of occasions, the disabled drivers and disabled passengers (tax concessions) scheme is currently under review by an interdepartmental group which is chaired by an official from the Department of Justice, Equality and Law Reform. Organisations and individuals have been invited to make submissions to the group. I understand that a number of oral submissions were received by the group earlier this month.

I hope that the receipt of the submissions will facilitate the group in its deliberations and in early finalisation of the report. Pending receipt of the report, I do not consider it prudent to make further comment on the scheme.
