Vol. 520 No. 4

Written Answers. - Youth Services.

Bernard Allen

Ceist:

217 Mr. Allen asked the Minister for Education and Science if he will allocate a grant to an organisation (details supplied) in County Cork in order that it can continue to employ two full-time workers to maintain the level of service required for the youth population of Cork City and the 30 secondary schools, in view of the fact that the current grant no longer covers two salaries and does not enable it to carry out the much needed PR and publicity work which are critical to the centre's work. Michael Creed

Ceist:

222 Mr. Creed asked the Minister for Education and Science if he has received an application from an organisation (details supplied) in County Cork for an increase financially in the next round of allocations; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [15837/00]

I propose to take Questions Nos. 217 and 222 together.

A grant of £38,970 has recently been allocated towards the running costs of a youth centre in County Cork which is operated by the organisation in question. This compares with a grant of £37,733 in 1999 and is reflective of inflation and pay cost requirements.
An application has been received by my Department seeking increased funding towards the cost of additional staffing at the centre and this is at present being considered. It is hoped to have a decision in this matter in the near future.
