Vol. 521 No. 1

Written Answers. - Legal Aid Service.

Ivan Yates

Ceist:

249 Mr. Yates asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform if he will arrange that the law centre in Wexford town has its full complement of legal representative restored to it in view of the very lengthy backlog of cases pending appointments and advice; and if the person, who was transferred to Waterford on a temporary basis, will be reallocated to Wexford. [16399/00]

I have been informed by the Legal Aid Board that the Wexford Law Centre currently has a full complement of staff. While a locum solicitor was assigned, on a temporary contract, to the law centre for a number of months to cover the absence of a permanent solicitor, I understand that the permanent solicitor has returned to work. Following the return to work of the permanent solicitor and the expiration of the temporary contract, the locum solicitor was re-assigned to fill another vacancy that had arisen in Waterford Law Centre.
