257 Mr. Currie asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform the number of motorists caught exceeding the speed limit on the N4, Lucan by-pass, between the Kildare border and Kilmainham, for the most recent 12 months for which the information is available; the sections of the N4 where they exceeded the limit; and if he will make a statement on the matter. I am informed by the Garda authorities that the details sought by the Deputy are not readily available and could only be obtained by the expenditure of a disproportionate amount of staff time and resources.

I wish to assure the Deputy that as part of Operation Lifesaver the gardaí are continuing to focus on speeding offences and in this regard in excess of 450,000 fines on the spot have been issued nationwide for speeding offences since their introduction on 1 December 1996.
