Vol. 521 No. 1

Written Answers. - Schools Building Projects.

Eamon Gilmore

Ceist:

272 Mr. Gilmore asked the Minister for Education and Science the reason the project to rebuild a national school (details supplied) in County Dublin has been stopped; the further reason for the delay in progress on this project; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [16466/00]

Architectural planning for a building project at the school in question is proceeding as quickly as possible having regard to the large number of school building projects on hand within my Department.

Denis Naughten

Ceist:

273 Mr. Naughten asked the Minister for Education and Science if, in view of the fact that some schools are finding great difficulty in having contractors tender for improvement works in the school including a school (details supplied) in County Roscommon, he will outline his plans to resolve this current problem; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [16467/00]

The Deputy will be pleased to learn that tender documentation has issued to a number of contractors who have expressed an interest in tendering for the proposed building project at the school in question.

The difficulties being experienced by schools, particularly in relation to small building projects arise as a result of the current high level of activity in the construction sector. However, this is not an area over which my Department has any direct control.
