300 Mr. Perry asked the Minister for Education and Science the number of schools in County Sligo and County Leitrim that have applied for a grant under the scheme for the teaching of science in primary schools; if he will provide a list of the schools that submitted an application; the amount of funding that was granted to each school; and if he will make a statement on the matter. The science grant referred to by the Deputy was issued to all primary schools in October 1999 including all schools in County Sligo and County Leitrim. It was not necessary for individual schools to submit applications for grant assistance under the scheme to my Department. My Department also issued a circular to all schools at the time which outlined the types of materials that should be purchased by schools with the grant. The amount of the grant varied according to the size of the school and ranged from a minimum grant of £400 to a maximum grant of £1,000.
