Vol. 521 No. 1

Written Answers. - Office of Director of Corporate Enforcement.

Jack Wall

Ceist:

44 Mr. Wall asked the Tánaiste and Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment when the office of corporate law enforcement will be estab lished and operational; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [16510/00]

Enabling legislation will be required before the office of the director of corporate enforcement can be established. The relevant Bill is currently at an advanced stage of drafting and I expect to be in a position to publish the Bill next month.

Arrangements are being put in place for the recruitment of the director, and other staff, in advance of the enactment of the legislation so that the office of director of corporate enforcement will be fully functional when the legislation is commenced, which I anticipate will be later this year.

I look forward to the establishment of the office of director of corporate enforcement and expect it to prove an effective weapon in the fight against corporate crime.
