121 Mr. Ring asked the Minister for the Marine and Natural Resources the current position with regard to a pier (details supplied) in County Mayo; the funding which has been allocated in this regard; and when the necessary works be carried out. [16594/00]
The pier in question is owned by Mayo County Council and maintenance and development of the facility is, therefore, the responsibility of the local authority in the first instance.
Mayo County Council completed the redecking of the pier in 1999 at a total cost of £100,000, towards which my Department contributed £75,000. I am advised that the local authority has now drawn up proposals for further development works. Assessment of costed proposals when submitted to the Department will be undertaken from all relevant perspectives including funding, and the needs of all local users and interests.
