Vol. 521 No. 2

Written Answers. - Consultancy Contracts.

Jim O'Keeffe

Ceist:

129 Mr. J. O'Keeffe asked the Minister for Social, Community and Family Affairs if he will give details of the cost or estimated cost of each of the reviews and studies involving external consultancies established since he took office. [16804/00]

Paul McGrath

Ceist:

132 Mr. McGrath asked the Minister for Social, Community and Family Affairs if, further to Parliamentary Question No. 172 of 7 June 2000, he will give the costs incurred by his Department in funding the reviews and studies as outlined in his answer; and the projected costs of the studies presently being conducted. [16815/00]

It is proposed to take Questions Nos. 129 and 132 together.

As part of their normal work, the staff of my Department regularly carry out reviews and stud ies in relation to policy issues or aspects of the administration of the Department's schemes and services. These generally do not involve additional costs.
On occasion external consultants may be engaged to assist with reviews and studies. I do not have any hand, act or part in the vetting or decision making process. Details of the actual or projected costs of these commissions since I took office are shown in the following table. The table includes a number of studies and reviews which, I regret, were omitted due to an oversight from the previous reply.
