Vol. 521 No. 2

Written Answers. - Garda Stations.

Jim Higgins

Ceist:

148 Mr. Higgins (Mayo) asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform the date his Department received an application for an additional clerical assistant for Cahir Garda Station, County Tipperary; and the reason that the appointment has not been approved. [16820/00]

My Department has not received an application for an additional clerical officer *at Cahir Garda station. I have been informed by the Garda authorities that an application for such a post was received by them in late 1997. The Garda authorities responded, indicating that in the context of policy in relation to staff numbers in the public service sanction for additional staff at Cahir could not be granted. They further suggested that local Garda management might reassign staff within the Garda division. However, it is understood that this was not deemed possible by local Garda management.

*The grade of clerical assistant was assimilated with the clerical officer grade in December 1995.
