Vol. 521 No. 4

Written Answers. - Community Support Services.

John Gormley

Ceist:

138 Mr. Gormley asked the Minister for Health and Children if his attention has been drawn to the fact that the numbers of community welfare officers in rural areas are being cut back; if he understands the vital role of the community welfare officer in rural Ireland as well as in towns and cities; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [17064/00]

I am not aware of a reduction in the number of community welfare officers. I understand there has been an increase in the number of community welfare officers in some areas as a result of the refugee issue. However, if the Deputy has a specific case in mind I will have the matter investigated.
