Vol. 521 No. 4

Written Answers. - Hardware Retailers.

John Gormley

Ceist:

192 Mr. Gormley asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government if he has received representations from small hardware-DIY traders who have expressed concerns with regard to the lobbying by hardware retailers to change the draft guidelines to accommodate retail outlets above 6,000 sq. metres; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [17364/00]

I have received a number of representations from the small hardware and DIY sector expressing its view that the 6,000 sq. metre floorspace cap for retail warehouses which was included in the draft retail planning guidelines should be retained in the final guidelines.

The general position in relation to the retail planning guidelines is set out in the reply to Questions Nos. 251 and 276 of 30 May 2000.
