Written Answers. - Garda Investigations.
As the Deputy is aware it is not the practice of the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform to comment on individual Garda investigations save in the most exceptional of circumstances.
Furthermore as the Deputy will be aware, the Garda Commissioner is independent in operational matters and Garda investigations are not carried out under the aegis of my Department or any other Department of State.
All I propose to say is that I am informed by the Garda authorities that this case is being reviewed by the divisional officer. On completion of this review a decision will then be made regarding the charges, if any, to be preferred.

Ceist:232 Ms Fitzgerald asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform the situation regarding a complaint made by a person (details supplied) in Dublin 4 in relation to an incident (details supplied); and if he will make a statement on the matter. [17163/00]
I am informed by the Garda authorities that two complaints have been made arising out of this incident on 14-15 February 2000.
I understand that the son of the person referred to in the question has complained to the Garda Síochána Complaints Board regarding his treatment by gardaí following his arrest on 15 February 2000. The investigation into this complaint is expected to be completed shortly and submitted to the chief executive, Garda Síochána Complaints Board.
I also understand that the person referred to by the Deputy has also complained to the Garda Síochána Complaints Board regarding alleged impolite treatment by gardaí at Donnybrook and Irishtown when he called gardaí to ascertain details surrounding his son's arrest. On 12 June 2000, a Garda inspector was appointed to investi gate this complaint and investigations are about to begin.
