Vol. 521 No. 4

Written Answers. - Citizenship Applications.

John Perry

Ceist:

250 Mr. Perry asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform if he will intervene on behalf of a person (details supplied) in County Sligo and have her certificate of naturalisation immediately processed in view of the fact that the documentation has been lodged for some time; if he will make a favourable decision in this regard; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [17524/00]

The case referred to by the Deputy is an application for Irish citizenship by way of post nuptial declaration. It was received in my Department in April 2000 and is currently being processed. Due to the high numbers of applications being received, the average processing time is in excess of nine months. It is likely that this application will be completed towards the end of the year.

As soon as the case has been finalised, I will inform the applicant and the Deputy.
