Vol. 521 No. 6

Written Answers. - Admission Charges.

Richard Bruton

Ceist:

118 Mr. R. Bruton asked the Minister for Arts, Heritage Gaeltacht and the Islands if she will give details of the discount off adult charge rates which are made by her Department or agencies under the aegis of her Department to children; the age range which defines children; if she will further give details of the discount off the adult charge rates which are made to students; and the criteria for recognising students. [17816/00]

The child and student admission charges for the Dúchas sites under the control of the Department of Arts, Heritage, Gaeltacht and the Islands are at the same rate. Generally, this rate of admission charge is approximately 40% of the adult rate of admission. There are other conditions pertaining to this rate. Children up to five years of age are allowed complimentary admission. Children of six to 18 years are charged the child-student rate and students in full time education with a valid-current student card qualify for the child-student rate.

In addition, Dúchas also operates a family rate which applies to a group of two adults and a reasonable number of children under 18 years of age.

From 1 January this year, the Minister introduced free admission to Dúchas sites, subject to certain conditions, for pupils following the primary school curriculum or the secondary-vocational-community school curriculum approved by the Department of Education and Science.

In relation to the cultural institutions, such as the National Museum, admission is free to all categories of visitors.
