Ceist:

126 Mr. Lawlor asked the Minister for Tourism, Sport and Recreation if, in relation to the recently approved and EU co-sponsored second URBAN Initiative 2000-2006, he will allow all areas of need which meet the qualifying criteria to be considered for the new programme irrespective of the fact that some were beneficiaries under the URBAN 1 Initiative 1996-1999 (details supplied). All eligible areas that qualify under the guidelines for URBAN II, recently issued by the European Commission, will be considered, including, if eligible, areas supported under the previous Initiative. Only one area will benefit from support under the new initiative, and the selection process is due to get under way shortly.
