Vol. 521 No. 6

Written Answers. - Schools Building Projects.

Ruairí Quinn

Ceist:

133 Mr. Quinn asked the Minister for Education and Science the reasons for the delay in seeking tenders for an extension and necessary remedial work at St. Ailbe's vocational school in Tipperary town, particularly having regard to the fact that planning permission and fire certificates have been obtained; when sanction will be issued for the erection of new fencing and the installation of cameras to improve security at the school; when the urgently needed repairs to the roof will be carried out, in view of the severe problems with leaks; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [17837/00]

There are a number of projects, including an extension project, at various stages of architectural planning at St. Ailbe's vocational school, Tipperary town.

My Department is exploring ways of amalgamating all of these individual projects into a single composite project in order to facilitate speedier delivery. My officials will be in direct contact with the chief executive officer concerning this matter shortly.

Once this examination is completed the question of approval for the works will be considered and a decision conveyed to the chief executive officer of Tipperary, South Riding, Vocational Educational Committee.
