Vol. 521 No. 6

Written Answers. - Admission Charges.

Richard Bruton

Ceist:

69 Mr. R. Bruton asked the Minister for the Marine and Natural Resources if he will give details of the discount off adult charge rates which are made by his Department or agencies under the aegis of his Department to children; the age range which defines children; if he will give details of the discount off the adult charge rates which are made to students; and the criteria for recognising students. [17818/00]

The Department is not involved in the provision of services for which discounts off adult charge rates could be made available to children and-or students.

In so far as agencies under the aegis of this Department are concerned, Coillte Teoranta may charge for access to certain forest amenity areas and discounts may be available for children and-or students. Similarly, the central and regional fisheries boards provide a range of services such as angling permits, boat hire etc. to the general public.
Under the Fisheries (Consolidation) Act, 1991, juvenile licences are available in all fisheries boards regions in the salmon rod annual category to children under the age of 18 years at a cost of £8.00. The adult equivalent licence costs £25.00. There is no reduction in charges for salmon rod licences to students who are 18 years or over.
The charging structures generally, including discounts made available to children and/or students, operated by Coillte Teoranta and the central and regional fisheries boards are operational matters for which the agencies themselves are responsible.

70 Mr. R. Bruton asked the Minister for Public Enterprise if she will give details of the discount off adult charge rates which are made by her Department or agencies under the aegis of her Department to children; the age range which defines children; if she will give details of the discount off the adult charge rates which are made to students; and the criteria for recognising students. It is a matter for the State-sponsored bodies under the aegis of my Department to decide the appropriate level of charges for the services they provide. I have no function in the matter.
