Information available in the Department indicates that the main non-EU countries exporting meat to Europe are as follows: beef: Brazil, Uruguay, Argentina, Australia, New Zealand, Slovenia, Poland, Hungary, Zimbabwe, Botswana, USA, Madagascar and Paraguay; pork: Hungary, USA, Poland, Canada, Czech Republic, Switzerland and Norway and lamb: Argentina, Australia, Chile, New Zealand, Uruguay and Iceland.
The vast bulk of imports of meat into the EU are imported under preferential arrangements negotiated under the WTO or bilaterally with third countries. The remainder are imported at full tariff rates.
