240 Cecilia Keaveney asked the Minister for the Marine and Natural Resources when work will commence on the breakwater at Greencastle, County Donegal, in view of the fact that funding was announced a number of months ago; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [19880/00]
Earlier this year, I announced funding of £3 million for major development works, including a breakwater, at Greencastle Harbour, County Donegal. Tenders for a site investigation for the proposed breakwater are currently being examined in my Department and it is expected that this contract will be awarded shortly.
Tenders have been invited also for the appointment of consultant engineers to evaluate the options for design of the project and prepare detailed designs. It is anticipated at this stage that the development works at Greencastle will commence during 2001.
