Written Answers. - Nursing Homes.

Richard Bruton

Ceist:

559 Mr. R. Bruton asked the Minister for Health and Children the average rate of payment of nursing home subvention per patient covered in each of the health boards; the proportion of persons in receipt of nursing home subvention who receive a payment in excess of £120 per week in each health board area; and if he will introduce changes in the scheme in order that the entitlement of applicants can be more transparent. [19801/00]

The following table lists the average weekly nursing home subvention payment in the Eastern Regional Health Authority (ERHA) and the health boards and the proportion of persons in receipt of nursing home subvention who receive a payment in excess of £120 per week.

The Second Schedule of the Nursing Homes (Subvention) Regulations, 1993 sets out the rules for the assessment of means in respect of an application for a nursing home subvention. The entire scheme is currently the subject of an expenditure review by my Department and the Department of Finance.
