Vol. 523 No. 1

Written Answers. - Departmental Staff.

Deirdre Clune

Ceist:

615 Ms Clune asked the Minister for Health and Children the plans, if any, he has to extend the agreement on the pay and conditions of environmental health officers, as provided for in Clause 2 (iii) of Annex 1 of the Programme for Competitiveness and Work, to pensioners who retired prior to 1 June 1996; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [20249/00]

Circular No. 76/97 issued by this Department in December 1997 specifically relates to the issue of superannuation for public service pensioners and states that public service pensioners who retired before the commencement dates of the various PCW deals should benefit from those deals on a parity basis subject to a minimum adjustment of 3% or a minimum adjustment of 2% in the case of those pensioners who had already received an advance payment of 2%.

I am satisfied that the provisions of this circular apply to environmental health officers who retired prior to 1 June 1996 and I have no plans to further revisit the issue.
Question No. 616 and 617 taken with Question No. 568.
