Ceist:625 Mr. Ring asked the Minister for Health and Children if ten additional long stay beds were put in place in the District Hospital Belmullet, County Mayo, in view of the fact that funding was sanctioned for this purpose in 1999. [20374/00]

Ceist:626 Mr. Ring asked the Minister for Health and Children if four additional nursing staff and two paramedical staff were appointed to the District Hospital, Belmullet, County Mayo; and the number of staff members employed at the hospital for the years 1998, 1999 and to date in 2000, giving details in each staff category. *During the current year, ten of the 40 beds in the district hospital were redesignated as long stay beds. Funding was allocated to the Western Health Board in 2000 for this purpose.

It will be noted that four additional nursing staff have been appointed in 2000. Due to recruitment difficulties the board have been unable to fill the paramedical posts despite advertising in Ireland and the UK. The board intends to re-advertise the posts in the near future.
