Vol. 523 No. 1

Written Answers. - Hackney Regulations.

Ivan Yates

Ceist:

662 Mr. Yates asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government the plans he has to allow hackney drivers to display their names and telephone contact points of their business on their vehicles as is allowed for every other form of business vehicle; and if he will facilitate the introduction of regulations to facilitate and control this. [19277/00]

A number of recent regulations have been made, following consultation with groups representing hackney interests and others, to update and clarify the service role of hackneys. New provisions involve the display by hackneys of an external sign. Given the basic service role of hackneys as private hire operators who are excluded from on-street hiring, hackneys remain prohibited from displaying other external signs or advertisements.
