867 Mr. Gregory asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform if he will request the prison authorities to consider the installation of a closed circuit television system on the exterior walls of Mountjoy Prison and St. Patrick's Institution at Blacquire Villas, Dublin 7, to discourage anti-social behaviour on open spaces which residents feel is indirectly associated with the prison. A major refurbishment project relating to the entire Mountjoy complex is under way. As part of the refurbishment works it is proposed to provide additional CCTV around the entire perimeter wall of the complex which will include St. Patrick's Institution, the open space at Blacquire Villas and the roadway at the rear of the Dakota site.
I have asked the Director General of the Prison Service to have this CCTV project commissioned as soon as possible.
