Vol. 523 No. 1
879 Mr. Higgins (Mayo) asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform if officials from his Department visited Oakington Reception Centre in Britain; and, if so, the purpose of the visit. [19534/00]
As part of normal bilateral contacts with the UK authorities on asylum and immigration matters, officials from my Department visited the Oakington Reception Centre in June 2000 to examine arrangements for the processing of asylum applications.
In addition, officers from the Directorate for Asylum Support Services, the Office of Public Works and a catering company visited the reception centre in July 2000 to examine the medical, educational, catering and other facilities available to asylum seekers at that location.
