Vol. 523 No. 1

Written Answers. - Garda Deployment.

Seán Power

Ceist:

880 Mr. Power asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform the reason for the delay in filling the position of sergeant in Carbury Garda station; when the vacancy will be filled; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [19538/00]

I am informed by the Garda authorities which are responsible for the detailed allocation of resources to an individual area that the current personnel strength of Carbury Garda station is one garda. I am also informed that the Garda station opens from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Monday, Thursday and Saturday and from 10 a.m. to 1.00 p.m. on Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday. When unmanned, the "Green Man" communications facility and telephone call diversion system linked to the district headquarters in Kildare comes into operation.

I am further informed by the Garda authorities that the sergeant in Carbury was successful this year in an internal Garda competition and was consequently transferred from the station. When sergeants become available as a result of the next promotion competition, which is currently being held, consideration will be given to filling the vacancy at Carbury Garda station in conjunction with all similar vacancies.
