921 Mrs. Owen asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform when he will make a decision on an application for post-nuptual citizenship by a person (details supplied) in the United States of America; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [20121/00]
The application for citizenship by way of post nuptial declaration referred to by the Deputy was received in my Department in September 2000 and is currently being processed. Due to the high numbers of applications being received, the average processing time is approximately 13 months.
As soon as the case has been finalised, I will inform the applicant and the Deputy.
922 Mrs. Owen asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform the status of an application for Irish naturalisation on 2 June 1999 from a person (details supplied); when his Department will make a decision in this regard; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [20122/00]
The position is that the person referred to applied for a certificate of naturalisation in April 1997. The application was processed based on the person's individual circumstances and I decided not to grant a certificate of naturalisation at that time. A fresh application was received in this office on 2 June 1999 and this case is being processed.
Due to the various procedures involved in processing an application for a certificate of naturalisation in respect of a person of full age, together with the very high number of applications being received, the average processing time is approximately two and a half years.
