The National Advisory Committee on Drugs whose purpose is to advise the Government in relation to the prevalence, prevention, treatment and consequences of problem drug use in Ireland, based on its analysis and interpretation of research findings and information available to it, was set up earlier this year. The committee was set up initially on a non-statutory basis but consideration will be given at a later stage to its long-term status.

The Tourism Marketing Partnership was established in April 2000, with the involvement of representatives of the tourist industry and Bord Fáilte, working together to develop complimentary strategies and plans for the totality of their combined annual tourism marketing expenditure. There are no proposals to give the TMP a statutory basis.

969 Mr. Quinn asked the Minister for Tourism, Sport and Recreation the committees, boards, companies or other bodies under the auspices of his Department which it is proposed to establish; if it is intended that each such body will have a statutory basis; and if he will make a statement on the matter. Under the terms of the Good Friday Agreement, it was agreed that a new all-Ireland tourism marketing company would be established by Bord Fáilte and the Northern Ireland Tourist Board under the auspices of the North-South Ministerial Council. It is envisaged that this company will be established under the Companies Acts, 1963 to 1999.

Independent product management boards, along the lines of those established under the Operational Programme for Tourism 1994-9, will be created under the local enterprise development sub-programmes of the Border, Midland, Western and Southern and Eastern Regional Operational Programmes, for the purpose of approving projects to be grant aided under the tourism measures of the sub-programmes. It is not intended that these boards will be established on a statutory basis.
