Vol. 523 No. 1

Written Answers. - Internet Access for Schools.

Richard Bruton

Ceist:

1088 Mr. R. Bruton asked the Minister for Education and Science the basis on which schools are levied for internet access; if any additional costs fall on schools that are not recompensed by his Department; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [20559/00]

Under the Information Age Schools initiative of Eircom and in co-operation with the schools IT 2000 initiative of my Department, all recognised schools at first and second levels have been provided with the following at no cost to the school: a telephone line, an internet connection, five hours per week telephone line usage for accessing the Internet.

Costs for accessing the Internet outside of the five hour free period per week are borne by the individual school.
