Vol. 523 No. 1

Written Answers. - Special Educational Needs.

Bernard J. Durkan

Ceist:

1136 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for Education and Science the further plans to ensure access to opportunity through education in the case of a person (details supplied) in County Kildare who was educated up to fourth class at St. Mochua's Aghards, Celbridge, County Kildare and who is now spending a year at St. Rose's, Tallaght, County Dublin; if he will be in a position to return to sixth class in St. Mochua's Aghards, Celbridge, County Kildare, at that stage; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [20718/00]

My Department has no record of having received any correspondence in connection with this case. However, in a case where a child with a specific learning difficulty is placed in a special school for a period of time, it would be normal for that child to return to his/her age appropriate class in his/her mainstream school once the period of time in the special school has elapsed.

In the absence of further information in relation to the case referred to by the Deputy, it is not possible for me to comment further at this stage. However, if full details are supplied I will ensure that this matter is examined fully.
